Ryan here. Donny’s been blathering on for the first few posts now but I couldn’t let him have all the fun. It’s Daddy’s (that’s what I call myself, don’t worry about it) time to shine!
I feel like we’ve explained how VANISH came to be ad nauseam at this point. If you missed any of that, check out the previous posts.
Drawing this book so far has been exhilarating. I’m used to working on established properties and feeling like there is a specific way that I SHOULD be drawing these iconic characters. But with VANISH, I am the only person that has ever drawn these characters so there is NO PRESSURE, and there’s a freedom to it that I hadn’t anticipated. Every line of this has been a joy. Even when Donny wrote page after page of crowd shots (you’ll see in upcoming pages) I had a blast.
On these first five we are introduced to our main character, Oliver Harrison. He’s the one walking down the alley in the hood. We also get a look at a brand new character named BATTLE ROCKET. What’s his deal? Why is a child smoking? Well, if I gave that away it would be pretty uneventful so I’m not gonna!
One fun note: Donny had actually written Battle Rocket’s first appearance into a 5 panel page. But as I was about to draw it I just did a splash because it was needed. When Donny saw it he agreed. This is the freedom of creator-owned comics!
Violent and action-packed, these pages were a true joy to draw. I’ve already seen the inks from JP and they look great. We will show those soon. But for now, enjoy your intro into our new world! And let us know what you think in the comments!

Fucking awesome! Exciting to see the incremental steps along the way.
Can’t wait for the finished product.
