Donny Cates: Well, hi. What a somber and solemn opening. Well, it's because we're all gathered here today to put to rest one of my favorite things I've ever made. BABYTEETH ended this past week, and yeah, I just want to take a quick second to say thank you to all you guys who have joined us on this incredible journey. You know, for those of you who don't know, BABYTEETH tells a story of a young girl who's 16 who gives birth to the Antichrist, and kind of follows her throughout her entire journey of learning how to be a mom and learning how to protect her child. Even though the entire world tells her that she's wrong, and the child is wrong, and all those things. You know, much like GOD COUNTRY was very much written and dedicated to my father, BABYTEETH was always for my mom. She had a similar experience of raising a problematic child, who the whole world said was gonna do awful things, and did. Kind of. Sometimes. Not anything, like... I mean, like killing dogs in comic books and stuff. I'm actually a really nice guy. But anyway, this book about the Antichrist that I wrote, I really am sincerely grateful to all you guys for supporting the book, even through the hiatuses, through COVID, through everything. It was a, if I'm going to attach a weird metaphor to this thing, a hard book to give birth to, you know. Both on my side and behind the scenes. But in the end, it's something that I'm incredibly proud of. It's something that will always have a very special place in my heart. If you'd like to hear what BABYTEETH sounds like, attached to this post is a song. And the reason I bring it up is that normally when I write books, I have all these playlists, and we've shared some of those with you guys. But for BABYTEETH, I only ever put on one song for the better part of three years now. Every single time that I sat down to write that book, I listened to one song and you can find it below. Because it's what being a mom sounds like, to me. It's what courage sounds like, it's what love sounds like. And so, if you're a fan of the book, crack it open, and put that track on, and hug your kid. Or whatever. You know, because I think if I've learned anything about kids, it's that... Well, they love chains. And I love you. Goodbye.
